Title: THE IMPACT OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE TREATMENTS ON QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATENTS WITH HEMATOLOGICAL DISEASES AND PATIENTS AFTER ALLOGENEIC HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION.

Session title: Quality of life, ethics, supportive and palliative care

Background:

Despite improved overall survival in hematological patients and patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) there are still many issues affected their quality of life (QOL). Some of problems related to not only the immune, infectious or other complications after chemotherapy and allo-HSCT but also to the general well-being of the patients. For instance, there are many concerns about skin complications after chemotherapy, hormonal treatment especially among female patients such as dryness, rashes, hyperpigmentation, scarring, alopecia, premature skin aging etc. Other common issue includes increased duration of recovery after many interventions that may last for months due to immunosuppressive conditions after treatment. Moreover, there is another challenge – most of the centers provide treatments for blood diseases only but have no connections with rehabilitation centers, cosmetology and plastic surgery clinics and specialists in aesthetic medicine.

Aims:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of treatment in aesthetic medicine on QOL in patents with blood diseases and patients after allo-HSCT and to expand the opportunities in aesthetic medicine for these patients.

Methods:

Aesthetic treatments combine injectable procedures such as different types of fillers, Botulinum neurotoxins injections and laser procedures (ablative, non-ablative, fractional etc.)

N=12 (100%) female patients with hematological diseases are included in the study. All of the patients are in complete remission and finished their treatment. All of them underwent one or several injectable and/or laser procedures with dermatologists/cosmetologists in aesthetic medicine clinics. Detailed patients’ characteristics are presented in table 1.

All patients completed two questionnaires: The Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and The Patient’s Satisfaction Score (PSS) and also physicians completed The Physician Satisfaction Score (PhSS).

Results:

The content of the questionnaires and overall results are shown in the table 2, 3.

Table 2. The Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and patients’ evaluation.

Score Description Patient’ score, n (%)

3 Very much improved 4 (33,3)

2 Much improved 3 (25)

1 Improved 5 (41,7)

0 No change -

-1 Worse -

Table 3. The Patient’s Satisfaction Score (PSS), The Physician Satisfaction Score (PhSS) and patients’ and physicians’ evaluation.

Description PSS PhSS PSS score, n (%) PhSS score, n (%)

Very bad outcome 0 0 - -
2 1
(16,7) (8,3)
7 7 4 (33,3) 1 (8,3)

Depending on the results of GAIS all of the patients received positive results after aesthetic treatments, none of them noted suffocation of their appearance.
